One small step for giant panda, one giant leap for female filmmakers. With a worldwide tally of $637.6 million and counting, Kung Fu Panda 2…
This is an old article, and will Yuh will likely not hold her place for long (It may have been passed already, I’m not sure. Frozen would probably surpass it but it was a woman/man co directing team, not just one woman), but I want to talk about this cuz I think its amazing anyway,
THIS WAS HER FIRST. MOVIE.
"Nelson, who was born in South Korea, immigrated to the United States at the age of 4, and grew up in Southern California watching martial-arts movies and drawing perpetually. With Kung Fu Panda 2, Nelson has combined those two interests and guided the result to nearly two-thirds of a billion dollars. That’d be an impressive outcome for any filmmaker, but considering that only seven percent of Hollywood directors are female, her achievement becomes — in the words of Po — pure awesomeness.”
This woman is a badass.
She took an existing, popular movie, and made a sequel many critics and fans consider to be even better than the original. She is a shining star not just for women in movie making, but for ANIMATION in general.
